Increase your water intake to help your body process fat, improve your workouts and make you feel full between meals. Let’s discover the good water does for us when we drink up.

Lipolysis

The process of breaking down fat in the body is called lipolysis. The first step in the process is called hydrolysis, where water is added to fat to break it down. So, water is essential to losing fat because it’s required for the process of breaking it down.

Metabolism

Healthy and fast metabolisms are often connected with those who are hydrated. Many people struggle with weight and fat loss because their metabolisms are slow. A slow metabolism makes it difficult to lose weight because weight loss is about controlling calories in vs. calories out. Don’t make it harder than it needs to be; hydrate!

Appetite Suppression

Again, weight loss is about burning more calories than you consume. Plenty of water can suppress your appetite, keep you full, and help keep overall calories lower. Drinking water with meals can help you from overeating. And sometimes, when you feel hungry, you’re actually thirsty. Next time you think you’re hungry, try having a tall glass of water, then see how you feel.

Improved Workouts

Once you’ve been properly hydrated, you’ll realize how difficult it is to train when you’re even slightly dehydrated. Imagine having to wake up and take a fitness bootcamp class after a long night of drinking beer. Doesn’t sound too fun, right? Because you know how horrible that would feel. That’s dehydration. By going into workouts hydrated, you’ll have better sessions and will be able to burn more calories.

Three Tips to Get More Water
  1. Track your water intake. They say what gets tracked gets improved. Simply being aware of your total should help you get more water in.
  2. Get ahead of your intake by starting your day with a large 20-30 oz glass of water. Do this before eating anything to make it a habit.
  3. Infuse your water with fruits or herbs to spice things up a bit. There are a number of sports supplements that make water both tasty and help with recovery and performance.
