As we come into the cooler temps of winter, it can be easy to forget to drink as much water as we did in the summer when the driving heat of the sun made us parched. But remembering to guzzle H2O can have more benefits than just alleviating thirst. If you’ve had house plants, you know how they look when you’ve forgotten to water them. They get droopy and sad, with brown spots on their leaves. Just add water, though, and they immediately perk back up! It’s pretty incredible to watch, and a good reminder of what happens to our bodies when we get dehydrated.

While there are numerous benefits to staying hydrated, one of the most noticeable bonuses is better skin! While drinking water doesn’t necessarily lead to hydrated skin (there are a lot of other organs to go through before the water gets there), it does help your body flush out toxins. This reduces the chance of those not-so-fun breakouts (no one wants those).

Even though we all know that we should be drinking more water, it can be hard to find the motivation to keep hydrating. Here is a tip that we’ve been loving lately:

Drink hibiscus tea (hot or iced)!

It tastes sweet and delicious, but doesn’t have any dehydrating caffeine or sugar. There are some great hibiscus tea blends, like the Celestial Seasonings Zinger teas, or the Trader Joe’s Red Refresh tea. You can also get dried hibiscus and peppermint and make your own tasty blend with equal amounts of each.

With an abundance of antioxidants and Vitamin C, hibiscus is also great for your complexion. Since you’re hydrating as well by drinking herbal tea, it’s a win-win!
